Day 0: EUG->PDX
The best decision we made was to put a full day between our wedding and when we left for Hawaii. We decided to splurge on a hotel in Portland that was really close to the airport so that way we wouldn't have to trouble anyone to take us to the airport at 4:00 am.

Made it to the airport for our early morning flight out of PDX. We flew to San Diego first, had a brief layover, then flew directly to Lihue, Kauai.

| Apparently I was more excited than he was ;) |
We then drove to our hotel. The first place we stayed was at the Sheraton Kauai Resort in Poipu. This resort has been featured in numerous documentaries, including the hit series "South Park" {Season 16, Episode 11, http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s16e11-going-native} We wanted to stay in a resort for a couple of days because we figured we would be too tired to really want to do more than just lay around the first couple of days. We were so right. After eating dinner at 4:00 pm, we went back to the room and fell asleep from 6:00 pm until 6:00 am the next morning.

| Ugh, I still have that exhausted look on my face. Also a pina colada. |

After getting a {much needed} 12 hour nap, D and I felt much more ready to explore the island! We had breakfast as a fun little restaurant on a nearby golf course called Joes on the Green. It was here I discovered my love for coconut syrup and D his love for lilikoi {passionfruit}.
One of the things we were warned about before coming to Kauai were the chickens. Being from the northwest {we love our chickens here!} I wasn't worried about it. But when they said chickens... they meant chickens. They are literally everywhere.

After a leisurely walk back to the hotel, we decided it was beach day. So we adorned our swimwear that hardly ever gets use back home, tons of sunscreen, and made our way down to the resort pool and beach for the day.

After a relaxing day in the sun, we headed to an absolutely wonderful restaurant for dinner, The Beach House. It was recommended to us by our friends Erica and John who went there on their honeymoon, and they even gave us a gift certificate to spend while we were there! Couldn't have asked for a more thoughtful and romantic gift!

Day 3 (Wednesday): Exploring Poipu
We spent most of day 3 wandering around Poipu. In the morning we visited a local grocery store {and I got my Locals!}, a nearby outdoor mall, and had lunch at Poipu's Tropical Burgers {soooo delicious!}. We almost got talked into visiting a timeshare presentation, but when they found out that we make less than $60K/year together, they laughed at us and sent us away. On our way back to the resort we took a detour through the gardens at a nearby hotel. Everything was so beautiful! Even the air smelled pretty and sweet.
We spent the afternoon laying by the pool again, because that's just what you do at a resort on the beach.
For dinner I wanted to take D to the Kauai Island Brewing company so he could taste lots of beer!

Thus concluded our last night at the Sheraton resort!
Day 5 (Thursday): The boat.
The morning of our fifth day we were beyond ready to get out of the resort. Don't get me wrong, it was amazing and I am so glad we got to make use of the amenities. But now we were rested and relaxed and ready for some adventure!
One of the things we really wanted to do while we were in Kauai was to see the Napali coast. Think Jurrasic Park in that opening scene where the helicopter is flying over beautiful lush tropical coastline... that's the Napali coast. Unfortunately there is no way to drive to get to it, you can only get to it by spending days hiking, a boat tour, or a helicopter tour. So we decided to splurge on a Catamaran tour. We arrived nice and early for departure from Port Allen and were already at the snorkeling spot by 9:30 am! The pacific northwestern-ers in us made us very hesitant to want to get into the water that early in the morning, but it was incredibly warm. D didn't care for snorkeling too much, so he just kind of herded me while I swam in circles trying to see fish. Funny thing is that he probably got to see more than I did, since he got a nice look at a big sea turtle!
After snorkeling we got back on the boat and headed up the coast. The weather was quite windy and rainy that day, as well as some large swells in the ocean. This meant a very bumpy ride for us. At first D and I were absolutely loving it! We held on to the sides of the rails and enjoyed the bumping and pounding from the seawater on us. It was by far the most fun we had up until that point. It was a beautiful moment.
...until I ruined it.
{Don't read this paragraph if you get at all queasy about people getting queasy!} All of a sudden my stomach decided that I was having too much fun and that enough was enough. D helped me get to the bottom of the deck to sit down and let my stomach settle.. which is the WORST possible thing to do when you are nauseous. I barely made it so I didn't puke on everyone's feet, and somehow hobbled to the back of the boat where I just puked my guts up all along the side. After feeling a bit better, I look over to see this horrifed look on my husband's face, then watched as all the color drained from his cheeks. He pushed me to the side and then proceeded to throw up as well. It was kind of romantic in a morbid, disgusting way. Certainly tested the whole "in sickness and health" part of our vows!
{Okay, you can read again.} I spent the rest of the boat trip sitting on the back, watching the horizon, trying to keep my tummy calm. On the plus side, this gave me ample opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Just wished I could have enjoyed it more.
The minute we stepped off the boat I immediately felt better. And hungry. So we stopped at a pizza place for lunch and then made the drive to Kapa'a to check in to our new hotel. We stayed at a hotel called the Plantation Hale, which was awesome! The people there were incredibly friendly {something we didn't really get at the Sheraton resort} and our room definitely had the laid back Hawaiian vibe to it. D was really excited to get our "Mahalo rewards card" {thank you South Park}, so we went and checked out the local grocery store. It kind of reminded me of a Safeway. We picked up some food to eat dinner in our room that evening, as well as some Lilikoi ale which was to become our favorite beer on the island.
Wheew! I think I'll go ahead and take a break and finish up the rest of the honeymoon at a later time. :)
